Dates and Plans for 2021

Greeting Storytellers. It's a bit of a long one, so pour yourselves a cuppa and grab your diaries.

As the risk to us, in Victoria, of being exposed to Covid decreases, and in response to your request that we meet face to face and on zoom, I've set up the following.

The gatherings will alternate between live at the HUB and virtual.

 NEWPORT FOLK FESTIVAL 25 - 27 June 2021

We have been accepted into the program for the Newport Folk Festival. Our event is called Newport Storytellers Podcast: LIVE. Our aim is to record more stories and songs for a final four episodes of the podcast. This will take place on 26 June in the Newport Scout Hall at 8.00 pm. Our priority is to record people who have not yet been featured. And of course we want lots of happy audience sounds - cheering and clapping etc.

If you haven't checked into the podcast, have a listen, all the episodes are here.

WORLD STORYTELLING DAY AND HARMONY DAY @ ELTHAM LIBRARY

Huge thank you to Susan Hall and Roz Quin for inviting us to the Eltham Library to celebrate these global days with story. Em trained all the way from Ballarat, Alan taxied Jackie and Dave from Newport and Dee travelled cross-country from Bentleigh.

As one of the first live events since the restrictions, the 'bums-on-seats' was disappointing but we all know, it's going to be a long, slow road getting people back into public spaces. The stories were live-streamed over Facebook and over 400 people checked in on our shenanigans.

And it was sooo good just to hang out and tell stories in the real!

IN CLOSING ... reminders

  • We aim to make our gatherings inclusive and welcoming.
  • The HUB is an accessible venue.
  • We ask that when planning to tell stories or sing songs, be mindful that sexist, racist, ablest and homophobic material hurt people.
  • Stories 6 - 10 mins
  • These gatherings  are a great space to develop repertoire, build confidence, experiment and make mistakes.

Cheers to All,

Jackie Kerin coordinator Newport Storytellers.
