The Newport Storytellers Podcast: LIVE @ The Newport Folk Festival

 INVITATION

Join the Newport Storytellers for a live recording session at the Newport Folk Festival.

We want to record your applause, laughter and deep and meaningful silences.

Come and support the brave crew stepping up to the mike: Susan Hall, Em Chandler, Lily-Ann Matthews Fabian, Anna Manuel, Ted Smith, Lana Wolf, Dani Bücheler-Scott and Dharma Picking.

They will deliver: wonder and fairy tales, comic Aussie verse, personal stories and more - something for everyone.

THE PODCAST STORY

During the Big Lockdown in 2020, the Newport Storytellers, with the support of a small grant from Hobsons Bay City Council, set about the task of creating a series of six episodes of gentle listening harvested from the story archives and including original songs.

Led by a team of three: Matt McArthur, Alan Davies and Jackie Kerin, they are now aiming to bring the series up to ten and catch some of the voices missed in the first round.

This time, they are fortunate to have the expertise of sound recordist, Kerry Saxby.

WHERE: The Newport Scout Hall, Market Street Newport

WHEN: June 26

TIME: 8.00 pm

COST: $5.00

Our aim is to be inclusive and welcoming to all in this space. Sexist, racist, homophobic and ableist stories, songs and comment hurt and exclude people.

How it works
  • These gatherings are informal and playful
  • We welcome storytellers, singers (with a song that tells a story) and listeners
  • We love to hear your news and listen to works in progress
  • Contributions around the 6 - 10 min mark (zoom can be tiring)
  • We plan for an hour but if we're still enjoying ourselves, we may go over.
  • On arrival we will create a list of participants and post in the chat so you know where you are.

Looking forward to seeing your zoomy faces.
